Welcome to PeterboroughNDP.ca, the website and online service hub of the Peterborough New Democratic Party Riding Association (hereafter referred to as the Peterborough NDP). The Peterborough NDP knows that you care how information about you is used and shared. This Privacy Policy explains what information of yours will be collected by the Peterborough NDP when you use our online services, how the information will be used, and how you can control the collection, correction and/or deletion of information. We will not use or share your information with anyone except as described in this Privacy Policy.

Information We Collect

In our continuing efforts to serve the citizens of Peterborough and surrounding areas, raise funds and build a strong base of support, the Peterborough NDP gathers and uses personal information as described in this Privacy Policy. The Peterborough NDP complies with, and endeavours to exceed the requirements of federal and provincial law.

User-Provided Information: You provide us information about yourself, such as your name and e-mail address, if you register with PeterboroughNDP.ca (including by ‘following,’ ‘liking,’ linking your account to PeterboroughNDP.ca, etc., on a third party website or network). If you correspond with us by email, we may retain the content of your email messages, your email address and our responses. We may also retain any messages you send through PeterboroughNDP.ca, or any user content you post to PeterboroughNDP.ca.

Consent

Consent to collect and retain information about you is deemed implicit where this information is voluntarily supplied. Under Canadian privacy laws, you have the right to inquire whether the Peterborough NDP holds personal information about you, access such personal information, and correct any personal information about you that is inaccurate. If your information changes or becomes inaccurate, or if you would like us to remove your information from our records, please send a request to contact@peterboroughndp.ca and include your name, address and telephone number, so that we can identify you. The Peterborough NDP will honour all requests not to disclose personal information (except where required by law), whether made at the time the information is provided or subsequently, and will promptly remove your name from our e-mail or postal mailing lists upon request. If you do not notify us, we will consider you to have consented to our continued use and disclosure of your information for the specified purposes.

How We Use Your Information

We use the personal information you submit for a variety of purposes, including updating you on our activities, involving you in advocacy initiatives, informing you about important political issues, raising funds and administrating party membership.

By providing the PeterboroughNDP.ca your email address (including by ‘following,’ ‘liking,’ linking your account to PeterboroughNDP.ca, etc., on a third party website or network), you consent to our using the email address to send you Peterborough NDP-related notices, including any notices required by law, in lieu of communication by postal mail. You also agree that we may send you notifications of activity on PeterboroughNDP.ca to the email address you give us, in accordance with any applicable privacy settings. We may use your email address to send you other messages, such as newsletters, changes to features of PeterboroughNDP.ca, or other information. If you do not want to receive such email messages, you may opt out at peterboroughndp.ca/unsubscribe.

Following termination or deactivation of your PeterboroughNDP.ca account, the Peterborough NDP may retain your profile information and user content for a reasonable time for archival purposes. Furthermore, the Peterborough NDP may retain and continue to use indefinitely all information (including user content) contained in your communications to other users or posted to public or semi-public areas of PeterboroughNDP.ca after termination or deactivation of your account.

The Peterborough NDP reserves the right, but has no obligation, to monitor the user content you post on PeterboroughNDP.ca. We reserve the right to remove any such information or material for any reason or no reason, including without limitation if in our sole opinion such information or material violates, or may violate, any applicable law or to protect or defend our rights or property or those of any third party. The Peterborough NDP also reserves the right to remove information upon the request of any third party.

How We Share Your Information

Personally Identifiable Information: the Peterborough NDP will not rent or sell your personally identifiable information to others. The Peterborough NDP may share your personally identifiable information with other branches of the New Democratic Party (NDP), both provincially and federally, for a variety of purposes, including record keeping, the maintenance of party membership, raising funds, providing information, conducting advocacy and electoral campaigns, and more generally to help the NDP communicate with you better concerning all branches of government.

Except as otherwise described in this Privacy Policy, the Peterborough NDP will not disclose personal information to any third party unless required to do so by law or subpoena or if we believe that such action is necessary to (a) conform to the law, comply with legal process served on us or our affiliates, or investigate, prevent, or take action regarding suspected or actual illegal activities; (b) to enforce this policy, take precautions against liability, to investigate and defend ourselves against any third-party claims or allegations, to assist government enforcement agencies, or to protect the security or integrity of our site; and (c) to exercise or protect the rights, property, or personal safety of PeterboroughNDP.ca, our users or others.

The Peterborough NDP may disclose personal information to third party contractors for the purposes of maintaining internal records and communicating with you. For instance, the Peterborough NDP uses the NationBuilder platform to organize our community of members, supporters and prospects. You can read more about that company and its features and polices at NationBuilder.com. When you visit PeterboroughNDP.ca, NationBuilder may send one or more cookies - a small text file containing a string of alphanumeric characters - to your computer that uniquely identifies your browser and lets NationBuilder help you log in faster and enhance your navigation through PeterboroughNDP.ca. A cookie does not collect personal information about you. A persistent cookie remains on your hard drive after you close your browser. Persistent cookies may be used by your browser on subsequent visits to the site. Persistent cookies can be removed by following your web browser’s directions. A session cookie is temporary and disappears after you close your browser. You can reset your web browser to refuse all cookies or to indicate when a cookie is being sent. However, some features of PeterboroughNDP.ca may not function properly if the ability to accept cookies is disabled. The Peterborough NDP uses Google Analytics to help understand use of PeterboroughNDP.ca. This service collects the information sent by your browser as part of a web page request, including cookies and your IP address, and Google’s use of it is governed by their Privacy Policy. The Peterborough NDP uses Google Apps to manage its email services. The Peterborough NDP retains ownership of any user content stored in Google’s databases; their use of it is governed by their Privacy Policy and Service Agreement.

How We Protect Your Information

The Peterborough NDP cares about the integrity and security of your personal information, and takes reasonable steps to protect your personal information from loss, misuse, or other unauthorized uses, and to remove your personal information when it is no longer required for its intended purposes. The Peterborough NDP cannot, however, guarantee that loss, misuse, or unauthorized use will never occur and makes no representations or warranties to this effect. Your privacy settings may also be affected by changes to the functionality of third-party providers, such as social networks. The Peterborough NDP is not responsible for the functionality or security measures of any third party.

Donors

The Peterborough NDP uses NationBuilder to process donations online and maintain donation records. All financial and donation-related information in NationBuilder’s databases is secured by industry-standard 128-bit Secure Socket Layer (SSL) encryption. The Peterborough NDP and NationBuilder do not store credit card information in our databases; all financial transactions involved in donations initiated through PeterboroughNDP.ca are processed through Paypal, which handles and retains information in accordance with its own Privacy Policy.

Compromise of Personal Information

In the event that personal information is compromised as a result of a breach of security, the Peterborough NDP will promptly notify those persons whose personal information has been compromised, in accordance with the notification procedures set forth in this Privacy Policy, or as otherwise required by applicable law.

Children's Privacy

Protecting the privacy of young children is especially important. For that reason, the Peterborough NDP does not knowingly collect or solicit personal information from anyone under the age of 13 or knowingly allow such persons to register for PeterboroughNDP.ca accounts. If you are under 13, please do not send any information about yourself to us, including your name, address, telephone number, or email address. No one under age 13 is allowed to provide any personal information to or on PeterboroughNDP.ca. In the event that we learn that we have collected personal information from a child under age 13 without verification of parental consent, we will delete that information as quickly as possible. If you believe that we might have any information from or about a child under 13, please contact us at privacy@peterboroughndp.ca.

We are not responsible for the practices employed by websites linked to or from PeterboroughNDP.ca, nor the information or content contained therein. Notification Procedures

It is our policy to provide notifications, whether such notifications are required by law or are for marketing or other business related purposes, to you via email notice, written or hard copy notice, or through conspicuous posting of such notice on PeterboroughNDP.ca, as determined by the Peterborough NDP in its sole discretion. We reserve the right to determine the form and means of providing notifications to you, provided that you may opt out of certain means of notification as described in this Privacy Policy.

Changes to Our Privacy Policy

If we change our privacy policies and procedures, we will post those changes on peterboroughndp.ca/privacy to keep you aware of what information we collect, how we use it and under what circumstances we may disclose it. Changes to this Privacy Policy are effective when they are posted on this page.
