Dave Nickle is committed to the well-being of Peterborough. Born in Peterborough, the unstable local economy drove his family to Toronto in 1960. His love for the area was strong and summer visits to relatives were happily anticipated events.
Dave received his B.A. in History and Physical Health Education from the University of Western Ontario, an Honours B.A. from York University and a B. Ed. from the University of Toronto.
While working his way through school, Dave supported himself with a variety of jobs, including construction work, landscaping, waiting tables, tow-truck driving, working as a bricklayer’s helper, as an oil-rig worker, a C.N.R. trackman and a cab driver. This has given him a sense of the breadth of our Canadian workforce and a regard for the diversity of our culture.
Dave’s teaching career began in Scarborough, where he taught for almost ten years before he and his wife, Nancy, and their children, Ryan and Kayla, moved to Peterborough. He now teaches at Thomas A. Stewart Secondary School.
Dave has held various positions within the Ontario Secondary School Teachers' Federation (OSSTF), including being the President for District 14. He is currently Provincial Councillor for District 14 and an Executive member of the Peterborough and District Labour Council.
Dave has been widely involved with many community projects. He is an active member of the Peterborough Health and Electricity coalitions and a campaigner for electoral reform. He is a member of the board of directors of the Peterborough Community Legal Centre and a social and labour activist. He has been a candidate for the NDP in the past three provincial elections.
Dave has the experience - and the commitment - to represent Peterborough.
